As a Personal Trainer/Master coach nothing gets me more excited when a client(and old school friend) like Margarita comes along and puts her whole effort into transforming her physique.I have had so many people comment on her transformation so I wanted to dig a little deeper and see what makes Margarita tick read on my one on one interview with Margarita and she gives us an insight to her journey to date .


Margarita how long have you been training?

I’ve been training now for about 2 years Fred.  I started off by going to the gym for 2-3 days a week but not really concentrating on my diet.  Once I changed to clean eating in late December and really started paying attention to my food, I began to notice dramatic changes in my body.


Tell me a bit about your background family husband 

Well, I finished high school in the 80’s (that sort of tells my age! like you Fred in my late 40’s) and then took a gap year and went overseas to Croatia with my family.  That’s where I met my now husband, Mario.  I went back 8 months later, on my own and ended up living there for one year and then Mario & I got married.  He came to Australia and in our 29 years of marriage, we’ve raised three wonderful children, now aged 25, 22 and 18.  I work at the Cancer Council Victoria, where I’ve been for over 15 years.  I enjoy being active, especially going to the gym and spending time with family and friends.

What’s a typical day?

My typical day starts off with me getting up at 6am.  The first thing I do, is have a glass of water with some apple cider vinegar.  After showering and getting ready I have my breakfast (something like poached eggs with avocado or spinach on a slice of spelt toast or I’ll have oats) Breakfast is my favourite meal of the day – never miss it!  I get to work at 8am and finish at 3:30pm.  After work I head off to the gym and usually spend about an hour doing my workout.  After my workout, depending on what night it is, I either go to school or I head home and start preparing dinner or if hubby’s cooking, then I do other house work until dinner time.  After dinner with the family, I probably do some homework and then start preparing my food for the next day and once all that is done, I’ll get some time to crash on the couch…where I catch up on Facebook responses to exercise and nutrition questions and just chill a bit.

Wow You look amazing, tell us a bit about your journey.

Thanks Fred…well before I got back into the gym (2 years ago), I was going to boot camp three times a week but just wasn’t seeing any advancements always in maintenance and never in progression state as you always preach.  So I felt fit but wasn’t happy with the way I looked. I turned to you Fred at Realfit Personal Training for advice and I started training with you one day a week(high intensity leg sessions).

Well, that was the start of an amazing journey.  Fred you  truly inspired, motivated and awakened something in me that made me want to achieve more for myself.  Your knowledge and coaching has truly helped me become a better version of myself.  Now I train 5 days in the gym in conjunction with your Lean Muscle Program and on my two “off” days I go for a 45min powerwalk.  I also eat clean, avoiding anything that’s processed. Sometimes it can get difficult, with other things going on in life around you but it’s important to stay focused and keep your goal in sight.  You need to remind yourself of your reason/s and know that everyday you’re getting results and are one step closer to your goal.

What advice out there for women your age?

Fred at this age, I think you still feel invincible.  After all, these are great years!  But changes are happening like your metabolism is slowing and your muscles are deteriorating.  I think it’s so important to stay healthy and be active.  To do this you need to eat well, increase your protein, keep up your cardio and absolutely do strength training (you won’t get bulky!).  By eating properly and training hard you will not only look better on the outside but you’ll be less stressed and less prone to getting sick and have a more positive outlook.  Having a personal trainer is also a great way to go, as they will help guide, motivate and inspire you to be the best you!  I totally love how far I’ve come and am looking forward to my next challenge which has fast tracked my success.

What are your plans?

At the moment I’m in training and preparation to compete in the INBA Novice Rising Star & Rookie of the Year competition, which is taking place on 8th March.  I’m hoping to enter the Fitness Model division, so it’s a very challenging, yet exciting time.  I’ve learnt so much along the way, thanks  Fred and I can’t wait to see what the competition experience is like.  It will be an amazing goal to achieve.

What are your future plans?

Being back in the gym and seeing what incredible results can be achieved, I’ve decided to become a personal trainer myself.  I’ve completed my Cert III in Fitness and at the moment I’m doing my Cert IV in Fitness, which will then qualify me to be a personal trainer.  I want to sincerely help people make positive changes in their lives by inspiring and motivating them to being committed to achieving their best in health and fitness.

This is an amazing journey to date, which I’m doing for myself but I wouldn’t be able to achieve it without the incredible help and support of some very special people.  Firstly, I’d like to thank my husband Mario for his understanding, encouragement and support.  The same goes for my children, who are there for me every step of the way and I hope to make my family proud.  I’d also like to thank my friends and work colleagues, whose amazing admiration and words of praise are keeping me motivated and determined to do the best I can.  Lastly, and most importantly, I need to thank you Fred, my coach, trainer, mentor and friend. Thank you for believing in me, pushing me when I wanted to give up, motivating me to try harder and always inspiring me to improve and be better.  You are always available when I need to pick your brain and you have given me a positive outlook on things I can achieve for myself.  Thank you for guiding me through every step of the way.  I have an amazing circle of support around me, for which I am truly grateful xx
